Why Rear-End Crashes Involving Semi-Trucks Can Be Severe
Rear-end crashes involving large commercial trucks mostly lead to serious injuries because of the major size and weight difference between vehicles. Even when a truck is slowing down or stopped in traffic, smaller passenger cars may not have enough time or distance to avoid striking the trailer ahead. Reduced visibility during overnight driving can also make these roadway dangers harder to detect.
Investigators commonly review traffic flow, speed, lighting conditions, and braking distance after these types of highway collisions. Vehicle damage and roadway markings may also help explain how the chain of events unfolded. In many cases, medical findings later provide a clearer picture of the harm caused during the impact, especially when critical injuries are reported shortly after the crash.
