What Information Is Commonly Collected After a Fatal Two-Vehicle Collision?
After a fatal two-vehicle collision, investigators typically gather a wide range of information to determine how the roadway incident occurred. This often includes vehicle positions, roadway markings, weather conditions, and any visible signs left behind, such as tire marks or debris.
Investigators may also review witness statements, vehicle damage patterns, and available surveillance or traffic camera footage. Data stored in newer vehicles can sometimes reveal information about speed, braking, and steering activity before contact.
Road design and traffic controls are also examined. Factors such as lighting, visibility, and intersection layout can help create a clearer picture of the moments leading up to the collision. Early reports often contain limited details, and additional findings may become available as the review process continues.
