What Is Commonly Reviewed After Wrong-Way Highway Collisions
After wrong-way roadway situations, investigators often examine entrance ramps, roadway signage, and lane markings to determine how a driver entered traffic traveling against the normal flow. Lighting and visibility conditions are also commonly reviewed, especially during overnight or early morning travel hours.
Vehicle damage, debris patterns, and roadway markings can help reconstruct how the vehicles approached one another before contact occurred. In some cases, surveillance footage or witness accounts provide additional information about driver movement before the sequence unfolded.
Traffic conditions and driver behavior are also considered as part of the broader analysis. Toxicology testing may be conducted when impairment is suspected. These combined details help investigators better understand how wrong-way highway tragedies develop and what factors may have contributed.
