Durham, NC (August 6, 2026) – One person died following a house fire in the 2100 block of Wintergreen Pl in Durham on Wednesday, August 5.
According to the Durham Fire Department, firefighters responded to the home shortly after 10 a.m. and found smoke coming from the rear of the residence. Five people were inside the home when the fire broke out. After extinguishing the blaze, crews located one person inside who had died from injuries sustained in the fire. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.
A second occupant was evaluated and treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, while the remaining occupants were not injured. Deputy Chief of Emergency Services David Swain said 41 firefighters responded to the incident, and no firefighters were hurt. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
