Oakland Park, FL (July 30, 2026) — One woman was killed, and one man was injured in a two-car crash at Northwest 44th Street and Northwest 31st Avenue on Wednesday, July 29.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and Oakland Park Fire Rescue crews were called to the intersection at approximately 6:35 p.m. Each vehicle had one occupant.

The woman driving one car was pronounced dead at the scene. The man driving the other car was transported to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

Authorities have not released additional information about the drivers or explained what led to the collision. Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit are investigating. The cause of the crash remains under review.

We extend our condolences to the woman’s family and loved ones and hope the injured driver recovers fully.

Where the Collision Happened: NW 44th St and NW 31st Ave

Northwest 44th Street and Northwest 31st Avenue form a local intersection in Oakland Park where vehicles traveling in different directions share the same crossing area. Drivers may be continuing straight or preparing to turn as they approach the junction.

At street-and-avenue intersections, traffic controls, lane positioning, visibility, and right-of-way movements shape how vehicles pass through the same space. These roadway features become important when investigators reconstruct a serious collision.

What We Know

  • Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the scene.
  • Oakland Park Fire Rescue also assisted.
  • Each of the two cars had one occupant.
  • The Broward Sheriff’s Office Traffic Homicide Unit is handling the investigation.
  • The investigation remained ongoing at the time of the latest update.

Why Side and Front Impact Locations Matter in a Fatal Intersection Crash

At an intersection, the area of damage on each car can help show how the vehicles approached one another and which movement brought them into conflict. Front, rear, and side impacts transfer force differently and can lead to substantially different outcomes for the people inside each vehicle.

Investigators examining the Oakland Park crash will need to compare those damage patterns with the roadway layout. The available report does not identify either car’s direction of travel or describe the point of impact.

How This Collision Is Investigated

Traffic homicide detectives may document vehicle damage, debris, tire marks, traffic controls, and the cars’ final positions. Together, those details can help establish the direction and sequence of movement before the collision.

Investigators may also interview witnesses and review any available surveillance or vehicle-recorded footage. No determination about the cause should be made until the Broward Sheriff’s Office completes its review.

What to Do After a Fatal Crash

Families and other people affected by a fatal collision should preserve medical documents, photographs, vehicle information, insurance correspondence, and records of crash-related expenses. The official report may provide a more complete account than information released during the initial response.

Florida crash reports are maintained by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles Crash Records division. Reports may be obtained through the Florida Crash Portal at services.flhsmv.gov/crashreportpurchasing, also identified as FloridaCrashPortal.gov. The report form is HSMV 90010 (Long/Short Form).

A report costs $10.00, plus a $2.00 transaction convenience fee for an online purchase. Officers have 10 days to file a report, and it becomes available online immediately once posted.

During the restricted period, reports may be requested by parties involved, their attorneys or legal representatives, and licensed insurance agents under § 316.066. Florida crash reports remain confidential for the first 60 days and become public afterward.
