Memphis, TN (August 14, 2026) – A multi-vehicle collision left one man dead and another hurt on Wednesday night on Interstate 40 near Whitten Road.
The collision occurred shortly after 10 p.m. on August 13. Two men were found with injuries after the vehicles became involved in the wreck.
One man was taken to a hospital in non-critical condition. The other man died at the scene.
Westbound I-40 remained closed past the Whitten Road exit after a vehicle entered a ditch along the right side of the highway. The roadway sits within a construction zone, where barrels block the leftmost lanes.
Emergency units had all westbound lanes blocked as of 11:30 p.m. Traffic backed up for at least 2.5 miles. The investigation into what led to the collision remains underway.
