Whites Creek, TN (May 27, 2026) – One person died and seven others were hurt Monday night, May 25, after a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 24 West in Whites Creek.
The collision was reported around 10:20 p.m. near mile marker 38.8, close to the Old Hickory Boulevard exit. Metro Nashville police said a 2026 GMC Yukon struck an abandoned flatbed tow truck and a 2018 Jeep Wrangler.
The Jeep then rotated and struck two more vehicles before facing the wrong direction in the road. A Nissan Sentra later hit the Jeep head-on, and a Toyota Camry sideswiped the Jeep while trying to avoid the wreck.
Police said 18-year-old Talon Sewell, a passenger in the Yukon, was ejected and died. The Yukon driver and another passenger were taken to Skyline Medical Center with minor injuries.
The Jeep driver and four children, ages 12 to 15, were also taken to Skyline Medical Center with minor injuries and later released.
The cause remains under review, and the Yukon driver was charged after the crash. We extend our sincere condolences to Talon Sewell’s family and loved ones.
Why Multi-Vehicle Highway Accidents Can Become So Severe
Multi-vehicle highway accidents can become dangerous very quickly because one impact may send vehicles into other lanes. When traffic is moving at highway speeds, drivers may have only seconds to react to disabled vehicles, debris, or sudden lane changes. A crash involving a parked or abandoned vehicle can also create a severe hazard, especially at night.
Passenger ejection is often one of the most serious outcomes in highway crashes. Medical teams may check survivors for head, chest, back, limb, and internal injuries, even when early reports describe minor harm. Investigators may review speed, lane changes, vehicle positions, lighting, shoulder use, and damage patterns. These details can help explain how the vehicles came together and why several people needed hospital care.
