What Investigators Look for in Bridge Collisions
Crashes on bridges can present additional challenges due to limited space for motorists to maneuver and for emergency responders to access the scene. Lane blockages on bridges often lead to significant traffic delays while damaged vehicles are removed and the roadway is inspected.
Investigators typically review vehicle damage, skid marks, witness statements, and driver actions to determine the cause of the collision. In rear-end and head-on crashes, officials may also examine factors such as speed, distraction, impairment, and whether either vehicle crossed into opposing traffic before the impact.
