Ririe, ID (July 8, 2026) – A two-vehicle accident on US Highway 26 near milepost 358 east of Ririe left one person dead and five others hurt on Monday evening, July 6. The collision occurred at about 6:45 p.m., when a westbound Hyundai Accent crossed into the eastbound lanes and struck a Chevrolet Tahoe head-on.
The Hyundai driver, a 32-year-old man from Idaho Falls, died at the scene. The Tahoe driver, a 49-year-old woman from Jackson, Wyoming, had four passengers, including a 24-year-old man from Jackson, a 53-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman from Mexico, and a teenager.
The 53-year-old passenger was taken by air ambulance to a local hospital, while the other four people in the Tahoe were taken by ground ambulance. The highway remained closed for about four and a half hours while emergency units assisted those involved.
The circumstances surrounding the wreck are still under review, and more details may be released as the review progresses.
