One person was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. No names, ages, or additional medical details were released in the initial report.
Traffic on Route 1 was affected after the collision, with only one southbound lane moving. The ramp between Route 1 northbound and Copeland Circle was also closed. The cause of the wreck remains under review as investigators continue gathering information.
We hope the injured person receives steady care and support during recovery.
Why Interchange Accidents Can Cause Serious Injuries
Interchange accidents can be serious because drivers might be merging, slowing, exiting, or changing lanes over a short distance. Traffic may move at different speeds as vehicles enter or leave a highway. This can reduce reaction time and make it harder to avoid contact.
When only one lane remains open, crews could need extra space to check patients, move damaged vehicles, and clear debris. Medical teams usually look for head, neck, back, chest, and limb injuries after a hard roadway contact. Vehicle positions, traffic flow, lane markings, speed, and nearby ramp design can help explain how the vehicles came together and why hospital care was needed.
