Orlando, FL (January 8, 2026) – A man has been arrested following a hit-and-run crash that left a bicyclist with severe injuries in Orange County. The collision occurred Monday near the intersection of U.S. 441 and Woodsmere Ave and involved a Ryder box truck that fled the scene after striking the cyclist.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the bicyclist was hit and dragged beneath the truck before the vehicle fled without stopping to render aid. Witnesses at the scene reported the horrifying impact and provided critical information to authorities.
Responding deputies from OCSO found the bicycle heavily damaged in the roadway, though the truck was no longer present. The cyclist, whose identity has not been released, was later confirmed to have suffered severe injuries, including internal bleeding and a pelvic fracture. He was transported to a local hospital and was expected to undergo surgery.
A key witness followed the Ryder truck eastbound on Interstate 4 near mile marker 90A, providing real-time updates that helped law enforcement track down the driver.
The suspect, identified as Jose Batista Grullon, was located and arrested shortly afterward. He was taken into custody and booked into the Orange County Jail, facing charges of hit and run involving serious bodily injury and possible death.
Both FHP and OCSO are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Our thoughts are with the injured cyclist and their loved ones, and we wish them strength and healing during recovery.
