Otis, MA (March 8, 2026) – A truck driver from Waterbury was killed after his tractor-trailer collided head-on with another truck on South Main Road in Otis.
The victim was identified as 32-year-old Antonio Marcucci of Waterbury. The crash occurred around 9:09 a.m. on Thursday, March 5. When emergency units arrived, they found Marcucci pinned inside his northbound tractor-trailer, which came to rest in a snowbank along with the southbound truck from Oklahoma.
Crews worked to free Marcucci, who was transported by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Oklahoma truck did not sustain serious injuries.
Preliminary reviews, including dash camera footage, indicate the Connecticut truck lost control and crossed into the southbound lane, resulting in the head-on collision. Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and more details will be released as they become available.
Our condolences go out to the family of Antonio Marcucci.
How Winter Weather Can Contribute to Truck Accidents
Snow and icy conditions increase the risk that large trucks will lose control on roadways. Tractor-trailers are particularly susceptible to sliding or jackknifing when tires lose traction.
Limited visibility and snowbanks can make it harder for drivers to see other vehicles or judge safe distances, especially on two-lane roads. Even experienced drivers may struggle to maintain control during sudden changes in winter weather.
Dash cameras and onboard monitoring can help investigators reconstruct accidents by showing vehicle movement and speed before a crash. These tools are often used to understand how weather and road conditions contributed to collisions.
