Papillion, NE (March 2, 2026) – One person has died, and five others were hospitalized following a two-vehicle crash Friday evening in Papillion, according to the Sarpy County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities reported that the collision occurred just before 6 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 370 and 66th Street.
Investigators said a Honda CR-V was traveling eastbound on Highway 370 and was attempting to turn north onto 66th Street. At the same time, a Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading westbound on the same highway, and proceeding straight through the intersection when the vehicles collided.
The driver of the Jeep, a 30-year-old woman, and one passenger sustained serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital for treatment.
A passenger in the Honda, identified as 74-year-old Dianne Clause, was also taken to the hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
Three additional passengers in the Honda were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Honda was not injured, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Dianne Clause and wish a full recovery to those injured in this collision.
What Factors Contribute to Severe Intersection Crashes Involving Left Turns?
Crashes involving vehicles attempting left turns across oncoming traffic are among the most common and most dangerous types of intersection collisions. When a driver initiates a turn across opposing lanes, they must accurately assess the speed and distance of approaching vehicles. Even a slight miscalculation can result in a high-impact crash.
Intersections along major corridors such as Highway 370 carry steady traffic volumes in both directions. Vehicles traveling straight through an intersection typically maintain consistent speeds, reducing the margin for error when another vehicle attempts to cross their path.
In side-impact or angled collisions between SUVs, the combined weight can significantly amplify crash forces. Occupants seated on the side of impact may be particularly vulnerable to serious injury, depending on vehicle positioning and point of contact.
Investigators reviewing crashes of this nature typically analyze right-of-way compliance, signal timing (if applicable), visibility conditions, braking evidence, and impact angles. Event data recorders, when available, may also provide insight into vehicle speed and driver inputs before the collision.
