Parmer County, TX (January 12, 2026) – A tragic collision involving a semi-truck and an SUV early Sunday morning in Parmer County claimed the lives of two individuals and left another seriously injured.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 1:00 a.m. at the intersection of US 60 and FM 3140. A semi-truck was traveling eastbound along US 60 when a GMC Yukon, heading north on FM 3140, attempted to turn onto the highway. The Yukon was struck by the oncoming truck during the turn.
Two occupants of the Yukon, identified as 26-year-old Edwin Abraham Zaragoza Barajas of Firebaugh, California, and 25-year-old Freddy Alexander Chocoj-Garcia of Friona, were pronounced dead at the scene. A third passenger, 24-year-old Jesus Osuna, also of Friona, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities reported that one of the Yukon’s passengers was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle upon impact. The driver of the semi-truck was not hurt in the collision.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene to assist with emergency care, traffic control, and the initial investigation. The roadway was closed temporarily as crews worked to clear the wreckage and gather evidence.
The Texas Department of Public Safety is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash, including whether speed, visibility, or other factors played a role in the fatal collision.
