Why Overnight Pedestrian Crashes Can Lead to Severe Injuries
Pedestrian roadway crashes that happen during overnight hours are often especially dangerous because visibility is lower for both drivers and people walking near traffic. Reduced lighting and quieter roads may also affect how quickly drivers notice someone ahead.
Serious injuries are common when a pedestrian is struck by a moving vehicle because the human body has little protection during an impact. Investigators frequently review roadway lighting, traffic speed, visibility, and driver attention after these collisions occur. Roads that carry both local and through traffic, including state highways passing through residential sections, may create additional risks for pedestrians during nighttime travel.
