Storm Lake, IA (July 25, 2026) – An 84-year-old man died after a vehicle-pedestrian collision in the Walmart parking lot at 1831 N Lake Ave. in Storm Lake on Thursday, July 23.
According to investigators, Larry Spiess of Alta was walking through the parking lot at about 9:30 a.m. when he was struck by a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 49-year-old Valentin Ventura-Mora of Storm Lake. Spiess was taken to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center with a suspected serious head injury. On Friday, July 24, the police announced that he later died as a result of the wreck.
No charges had been filed as of the latest update. The circumstances surrounding the accident continue to be examined.
