What Information Is Usually Gathered After a Fatal Pedestrian Collision?
After a fatal pedestrian collision, investigators typically work to establish the sequence of events using physical evidence and other available information. They may examine vehicle positions, roadway markings, lighting conditions, traffic signals, and surveillance footage, if available.
Witness statements can also help clarify what occurred before the collision. In some cases, investigators review vehicle data or other evidence to understand better speed, direction of travel, and driver actions. Early reports frequently contain only basic information because the review process takes time. As additional verified facts become available, updates may provide a more complete picture of the circumstances surrounding the roadway collision.
