Pittsfield Township, MI (June 22, 2026) – A 23-year-old man was killed after being struck by a vehicle while crossing South Maple Rd near Travis Pointe Rd in Pittsfield Township on Saturday night, June 20.

According to the Pittsfield Township Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 10:30 p.m. following reports of a pedestrian crash. Investigators said John Frick, of Saline, was crossing South Maple Rd when he was struck by a northbound vehicle.

Emergency responders and paramedics attempted life-saving measures at the scene. Despite those efforts, Frick was pronounced dead at approximately 11 p.m.

Authorities reported that the driver involved, a 90-year-old Ann Arbor resident, was not injured in the collision.

The Saline Township Fire Department and Huron Valley Ambulance assisted at the scene. The roadway was temporarily closed while investigators gathered evidence and cleared the area.

The crash remains under investigation. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or has information related to the incident to contact the Pittsfield Township Police Department.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of John Frick during this difficult time.

Why Are Nighttime Pedestrian Crashes Dangerous?

Pedestrian crashes that occur after dark present additional challenges due to reduced visibility for both drivers and pedestrians. Factors such as roadway lighting, weather conditions, clothing visibility, vehicle speed, and crossing locations can all influence a driver’s ability to recognize and react to pedestrians in time.

Investigators reviewing fatal pedestrian collisions typically analyze physical evidence from the scene, witness statements, vehicle damage, roadway design, and available surveillance footage. Authorities may also examine sight distances and lighting conditions to better understand how the crash occurred.

These investigations help determine contributing factors and can provide valuable information for improving pedestrian safety in similar locations.
