Tacoma, WA (June 22, 2026) – Several people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Saturday evening at the intersection of Pacific Ave S and 110th St S in Tacoma.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 5:22 p.m. on June 20 when a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle near the Alta Apartments on Steel St S. Authorities said the driver refused to stop and sped away. Deputies later placed a tracking device on the vehicle and ended the initial pursuit.
A short time later, deputies located the vehicle near 84th St and Yakima Ave, where the driver was reportedly attempting to remove the tracking device. Investigators said the 22-year-old suspect then got back into the vehicle and fled a second time.
Deputies pursued the vehicle onto Pacific Ave S, where it crashed into another vehicle at the intersection with 110th St S at approximately 5:29 p.m. The Washington State Patrol reported that three vehicles were involved in the collision. One of the vehicles caught fire following the crash.
Four occupants of a victim vehicle, including two children, were taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. A deputy also sustained a minor injury and was transported for evaluation. Authorities later confirmed that all injured parties had been released from the hospital.
The suspect allegedly fled on foot after the collision but was quickly taken into custody. He was booked into the Pierce County Jail on suspicion of DUI, four counts of vehicular assault, felony hit-and-run, two counts of attempting to elude law enforcement, and resisting arrest.
Our thoughts are with those injured, and we wish them continued recovery.
How Police Pursuit-Related Crashes Affect Many Road Users?
Crashes involving fleeing drivers can place numerous motorists at risk because high-speed driving reduces reaction time and increases the likelihood of collisions at busy intersections. Even when law enforcement takes steps to reduce pursuit risks, a fleeing driver may continue to create dangerous conditions for other road users.
Multi-vehicle crashes can result in injuries to people who have no connection to the original incident. Occupants of nearby vehicles, pedestrians, and responding personnel may all be exposed to heightened danger when a suspect vehicle disregards traffic laws.
Investigators reviewing these collisions typically examine vehicle speeds, roadway conditions, witness statements, and surveillance evidence to better understand the sequence of events. Findings from these investigations can help establish how the crash occurred and what factors contributed to the injuries sustained by those involved.
