Corona, NY (August 2, 2026) – Police are searching for the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a woman early Saturday, July 31, in Corona. Emergency units responded to the intersection of 57th Avenue and 99th Street at approximately 1:33 a.m. after reports of a pedestrian being struck.

Investigators said a gray Ford was traveling north on 99th Street when it hit the woman. The driver fled the scene before emergency personnel arrived. The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, suffered severe head and body injuries. She was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Queens Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. No arrests have been announced.

Authorities continue working to identify and locate the driver as the investigation remains active. We extend our deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

Why Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crashes Require Detailed Investigations

Hit-and-run crashes involving pedestrians can present unique challenges because investigators must determine both how the collision occurred and who was driving the vehicle. Evidence such as vehicle debris, surveillance footage, witness statements, and roadway markings may help identify the driver and establish the sequence of events.

The location of the impact, lighting conditions, and damage to the vehicle can also provide valuable information during the review. Medical findings and physical evidence collected at the scene may further clarify how the crash unfolded. As additional information is gathered, investigators can develop a more complete understanding of the incident.
