Marion County, FL (July 22, 2026) – A fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. Monday in Marion County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash took place on CR-329, just north of CR-320.

The vehicle was traveling south on CR-329 when the pedestrian was near the roadway while cutting a fallen tree with a chainsaw. Troopers said the vehicle struck the tree and the pedestrian during the crash.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity was not released in the initial report. The investigation remains active as authorities continue reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash. We extend our deepest sympathy to the loved ones of the person who lost their life.

How Fallen Objects Can Create Roadway Hazards

Trees, debris, and other objects in travel lanes can create serious risks for drivers and people near roads. Reduced visibility, limited reaction time, and unexpected obstacles may increase the chance of a dangerous situation. Drivers are often advised to remain alert for changes in road conditions, especially on rural routes or areas with limited lighting.

People working near roadways can also face risks from passing traffic. Using warning signs, keeping a safe distance from moving vehicles, and wearing visible clothing can help improve safety. Roadside work involving equipment such as cutting tools requires extra care because nearby traffic can change conditions quickly. Awareness from both drivers and pedestrians can help reduce roadway dangers.
