Why Leaving the Roadway After Striking a Pedestrian Can Increase Harm
Pedestrian crashes often result in severe injuries because people have little protection from the force of a moving vehicle. Quick medical attention can make a major difference, especially when head trauma, internal injuries, or broken bones are involved. When a driver leaves without stopping, delays in emergency care may increase the risks for the person who was hit.
Investigators commonly review witness accounts, surveillance footage, roadway evidence, and vehicle damage when examining hit-and-run cases. In many situations, debris left behind or nearby cameras can help identify the vehicle involved. Charges connected to these cases may become more serious when injuries are severe or when a driver is accused of operating a vehicle without a valid license. Public reports and tips from witnesses can also help move investigations forward.
