Why Pedestrian Strikes Lead to Rib and Chest Injuries
When a pedestrian is struck by a vehicle, the upper body is the first point of contact, which means this can lead to rib, chest, or abdominal pain depending on the angle and force of the impact. Even at lower speeds, collisions may still result in significant discomfort or internal injuries, and in Muhlenberg Township, Pennsylvania, pedestrian crash data has shown that these incidents, while less common than vehicle-only crashes, are more likely to result in serious harm.
Areas near gas stations and busy roadways can present higher risks due to frequent turning movements and vehicle congestion, and as a result, drivers may encounter pedestrians entering or crossing unexpectedly. This risk can increase in commercial zones with steady traffic flow and limited space between vehicles and walkways.
Because of these risks, drivers are encouraged to stay alert in these environments and watch for pedestrian activity at all times. In addition, prompt medical evaluation after a pedestrian strike is recommended, since some injuries may not be immediately visible.
