Why Road Closures Are Common After Local Traffic Crashes
Road closures are often necessary after crashes on local streets to allow responders to work safely and manage traffic flow. Even smaller roadways can become congested when emergency vehicles are present.
When a crash involves service vehicles, such as mail trucks, additional care may be taken to secure the area and assess any potential hazards. These scenes may also require coordination between multiple response teams.
Closures usually remain in place until vehicles are removed and the roadway is safe for travel. Once conditions improve, traffic is gradually allowed to return to normal patterns.
