Why Intersection Crashes Often Involve Multiple Vehicles
Crashes at intersections frequently occur when vehicles enter from different directions at the same time, sometimes due to misjudged timing or limited visibility. Even when traffic signals or signs are present, driver attention and speed play a major role in preventing collisions.
Larger vehicles like SUVs and pickup trucks can also contribute to more severe impact forces in intersection crashes, especially when both vehicles are traveling through crossing paths. These collisions often happen quickly, leaving little time for drivers to react.
After such incidents, investigators typically review traffic control devices, roadway layout, and vehicle movement patterns. This helps determine how each vehicle entered the intersection and whether any contributing factors were present.
