Why Vehicle Entrapment Can Complicate Rollover Crash Responses
Rollover crashes create dangerous conditions for occupants, especially when a vehicle comes to rest on its roof or side. In these situations, doors may become jammed, and the roof structure can collapse inward, making it difficult for people to exit safely.
Emergency crews typically stabilize the overturned vehicle before attempting extraction. Specialized rescue tools may be used to remove doors or create openings so trapped occupants can be safely reached and removed.
Investigators later review vehicle damage, impact angles, and roadway conditions to determine how the rollover occurred. Crashes involving multiple vehicles may also require analysis of speed, lane position, and driver reaction before impact.
