What Investigators Review in Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Crashes
Pedestrian hit-and-run crashes usually require investigators to gather evidence quickly before traffic patterns and roadway conditions change. Surveillance footage, debris left behind by the vehicle, and witness accounts become key parts of the investigation.
In urban areas, intersections with heavy foot traffic can pose additional risks to pedestrians, especially during evening hours. Visibility, vehicle speed, and traffic signal timing may all be examined to better understand how the collision occurred.
When a driver leaves the scene, investigators look for nearby cameras from businesses, homes, or traffic systems to try to track and identify the vehicle involved. Damage to the suspect vehicle can later help connect it to the crash scene.
