Pettis, MO (January 6, 2026) – A chain-reaction collision involving four vehicles resulted in one man being transported to the hospital on Monday evening in Pettis County. The crash occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m. on the southbound side of Limit Ave, just south of Honda Rd.
Authorities reported that the incident began when a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by a 50-year-old man from Sedalia, was struck from behind while attempting to turn into a driveway. The sequence of collisions continued as a 2024 Toyota RAV4, a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, and a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse all became involved in the crash.
The Chrysler driver sustained injuries and was transported by Pettis County Ambulance District to Bothwell Regional Health Center. All other drivers, women ranging in age from 54 to 70, were reportedly uninjured and remained at the scene. All parties involved were traveling southbound, and each was properly restrained at the time of the crash.
While three of the vehicles were able to be driven away, the Chevrolet Traverse had to be towed by Don’s Towing due to sustained moderate damage. Trooper N.G. Bennett of the Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop A led the investigation, with support from CPL. C.D. Parrott and the Pettis County Sheriff’s Office.
We extend our best wishes to the injured driver for a full recovery.
Multi-Car Rear-End Accidents in Missouri
Rear-end collisions are among the most common types of crashes on Missouri roadways, often leading to multiple-vehicle pileups during periods of moderate to heavy traffic. Monday’s incident in Sedalia illustrates just how quickly a seemingly simple situation, like a driver turning into a driveway, can escalate into a four-car crash.
In this case, the initial impact occurred when the front end of an approaching vehicle struck the rear of the Chrysler Town and Country, which had slowed or stopped to turn. The momentum caused a domino effect, with two additional vehicles subsequently colliding in sequence. All vehicles were headed southbound on Limit Ave, a heavily traveled route that sees consistent use during late afternoon hours.
Chain-reaction crashes can be especially complex, as they often involve multiple impacts, varied speeds, and limited reaction times for trailing drivers. In many instances, it only takes one moment of inattention or following too closely to set off a string of rear-end collisions. While no critical injuries were reported in this crash, such incidents can quickly become dangerous, especially when seat belt use is inconsistent or visibility is low.
The Missouri Department of Transportation urges all drivers to maintain adequate following distances and remain alert in areas where turns, driveways, and intersections frequently interrupt traffic flow. Defensive driving and patience are key to preventing these kinds of pileups.
If you or a loved one has been involved in a multi-vehicle crash, it’s important to ensure you understand your rights and responsibilities, especially when multiple parties and insurers are involved.
