Why Motorcycle Crashes at Intersections Are Often Severe
Motorcycle crashes at intersections can result in serious injuries because riders have far less protection than occupants inside passenger vehicles. Even at moderate speeds, a rider may be thrown from the motorcycle during impact, increasing the risk of severe trauma.
Investigators reviewing these crashes often examine right-of-way issues, turning movements, traffic visibility, and driver reaction times. In many cases, vehicle damage and roadway evidence help explain how the collision occurred.
Left-turn crashes are among the more common types of motorcycle accidents at intersections. Drivers may misjudge the speed or distance of an approaching motorcycle, especially during busy traffic periods or when visibility is limited by other vehicles or roadway conditions.
