Why Are Head-On Crashes So Severe?
Head-on crashes are among the most dangerous types of roadway accidents. They occur when a vehicle drifts into oncoming traffic or crosses the center line. Because both vehicles are usually moving toward each other, the combined force of impact can be extremely high.
These collisions frequently result in serious or fatal injuries due to the direct front-end impact. Even with airbags and seat belts, the sudden force can cause major trauma. Vehicle damage is also typically extensive, especially to the front engine and passenger areas.
Road conditions, visibility, and driver actions are often reviewed to determine how a head-on crash occurred. In many cases, investigators also examine roadway markings and vehicle positioning to better understand the sequence of events.
