Pomona, CA (May 3, 2026) – A multi-vehicle crash during the morning commute caused lane blockages and sent one person to the hospital on the westbound I-10 transition to State Route 57.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash was first reported around 7:55 a.m. and involved multiple vehicles, including a red Toyota RAV4, a truck, a black sedan, and a white sedan. All vehicles came to rest on the right shoulder following the collision.
Authorities later determined the incident involved three separate collisions in the same area. At least one individual was transported to a hospital for treatment, though the extent of their injuries has not been disclosed.
The crash initially blocked the No. 2 lane, contributing to traffic delays as crews worked to manage the scene. Tow services were requested for damaged vehicles, including a Tesla with front-end damage.
By approximately 8:42 a.m., the roadway had been cleared and traffic flow was restored.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
We hope for a quick recovery for the injured individual.
How Do Multi-Collision Incidents Occur on Freeway Transitions?
Freeway transitions are high-risk areas where drivers must adjust speed, merge, and navigate changing traffic patterns within a short distance. These conditions can make it easier for one crash to trigger additional collisions nearby.
When a vehicle suddenly slows or stops, following drivers may not have enough time to react, especially during busy morning commutes. This can result in multiple separate crashes occurring in quick succession within the same stretch of roadway.
Limited space and heavy traffic can also make it difficult for drivers to avoid hazards once a collision has occurred. Maintaining a safe following distance and staying attentive while approaching interchanges can significantly reduce the risk of multi-collision incidents.
