Why Parking Lot Rollover Crashes Can Still Cause Serious Injuries
Rollover crashes in parking lots may seem less severe than highway collisions, but they can still result in significant injuries. Sudden acceleration, sharp steering movements, or driver error can cause a vehicle to lose balance, especially in areas with tight lanes and parked cars.
When a vehicle strikes multiple parked cars before overturning, the force of impact can increase damage and injury risk. Occupants may be thrown against interior surfaces or trapped inside the vehicle, requiring emergency extrication, and even pedestrians could be nearby and be injured. Parking structures also contain fixed objects like curbs, light poles, and barriers that can worsen collision outcomes.
Investigators typically review vehicle movement, surveillance footage, and roadway layout to determine what led to the crash. Medical evaluations help assess injuries that may not be immediately visible after a rollover event.
