Rancho San Diego, CA (February 24, 2026) – A three-car crash led to a vehicle fire in Rancho San Diego, prompting a road closure in the area.
The incident occurred around 8:37 p.m. on Sunday, February 23, along Calle Albara near Rancho San Diego Elementary School. Reports indicate a moving vehicle struck two parked cars, resulting in all three vehicles catching fire.
The occupants of the vehicle that caused the crash exited and fled the scene on foot toward a nearby hillside. No one was inside the parked vehicles at the time of the collision.
Emergency units arrived and worked to contain the flames, which were spreading toward nearby vegetation. Crews were able to put out the fire before it extended beyond the immediate area.

Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. Our thoughts are with those affected as they continue to recover.
How Vehicle Fires Can Start After Crashes in California
Vehicle fires can occur when a crash damages fuel systems or electrical components. Even a single impact can create sparks or leaks that lead to flames.
When multiple vehicles are involved, the risk of fire can increase. Parked cars may also catch fire if a moving vehicle hits them with enough force. Dry vegetation near roadways can add another layer of risk. If flames spread beyond the vehicles, nearby grass or brush may ignite quickly.
Road closures are often necessary after these incidents to allow crews to control the fire and clear damaged vehicles. Once the area is safe, traffic can resume as cleanup is completed.
