Why Head-on Crashes Often Lead to Severe Injuries
Head-on crashes can cause severe injuries because both vehicles may absorb a strong impact from the front. This force can affect the driver’s head, chest, legs, and internal organs. Older drivers may also face a higher risk of life-threatening harm after a major collision.
Roadway layout can affect the severity of these crashes. Narrow lanes, curves, hills, and limited shoulders may reduce the time drivers have to react. Traffic moving in opposite directions can leave little room to avoid an impact.
After a deadly head-on crash, scene details can help explain how the collision occurred. Vehicle damage, final resting positions, roadway markings, and witness accounts may provide useful context. Medical records can also help show the full extent of injuries caused by the crash.
