Derry, NH (June 22, 2026) – A 61-year-old motorcyclist died following a serious crash Saturday in Derry, according to local authorities.

The police and emergency personnel responded to Island Pond Road after receiving reports of a serious motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle.

Upon arrival, first responders located the motorcycle rider and immediately began life-saving measures. The victim was transported to a local hospital for further treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities identified the rider as 61-year-old Christopher Chick of Derry.

The roadway was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene and worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not released additional details regarding the cause of the collision. The incident remains under investigation.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Mr. Chick during this difficult time.

Motorcycle Fatalities Are Still a Traffic Safety Concern

Motorcyclists face a heightened risk of severe injury or death in traffic collisions due to the limited protection offered by motorcycles compared to passenger vehicles. Even when riders wear protective gear, crashes can result in devastating consequences.

Following fatal motorcycle crashes, investigators typically review roadway conditions, vehicle damage, witness statements, speed, visibility, and other contributing factors to determine how the incident occurred. These investigations help authorities establish the sequence of events and identify potential safety concerns.

Drivers are encouraged to remain vigilant for motorcycles, particularly during warmer months when motorcycle traffic is more common on local roadways.
