What Makes ATV Crashes on Public Roads Especially Dangerous?
ATVs are designed mainly for off-road use and may not provide the same stability as standard vehicles on paved roads. Their smaller size can also make them harder for other drivers to notice, especially at night.
Rear-end crashes involving ATVs can be particularly severe. Without protective structures such as seat belts or enclosed frames, riders are more likely to be thrown from the vehicle upon impact.
Speed differences between ATVs and regular traffic can also increase risk. When larger vehicles approach quickly, drivers may not have enough time to slow down or avoid a collision.
