Riverside County, CA (May 11, 2026) – A violent rollover crash on the 60 Freeway in Riverside County claimed the life of a woman driving an SUV on Sunday afternoon, though an infant in the vehicle survived with minor injuries.
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash occurred just west of Day Street around 2:10 p.m. The 2014 Acura MDX was traveling at a high rate of speed in the center median shoulder when the driver lost control. The SUV overturned multiple times, ejecting the driver into the eastbound lanes, where she was struck by a 2024 Tesla Model 3. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
An infant, secured in a car seat in the back of the Acura, survived the crash and suffered only minor injuries. The Tesla driver was uninjured.
Authorities have not shared details regarding the relationship between the driver and the infant or who took custody of the child after the incident.
We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased and hope for a full recovery for the infant involved.
Understanding the Risks of High-Speed SUV Rollover Crashes
High-speed SUV rollovers are particularly dangerous due to the vehicle’s higher center of gravity, which makes it more prone to flipping during sudden maneuvers. Ejections, collisions with other vehicles, and the risk of secondary impacts dramatically increase the likelihood of fatal injuries.
Car seats remain critical for protecting infants and young children during serious crashes. Properly secured in the rear seat, children are far more likely to survive violent collisions, as this case demonstrates.
Drivers should maintain safe speeds, stay alert in high-traffic areas, and avoid risky maneuvers to prevent similar tragedies.
