Pedestrian Safety and Risks at Intersections
Pedestrian crashes often occur when someone is crossing a roadway and is struck by a vehicle. Even in areas with traffic signals, crosswalks, or sidewalks, pedestrians can be vulnerable to collisions, particularly at busy intersections.
Factors such as vehicle speed, visibility, lighting conditions, and driver attention can all influence the likelihood and severity of a pedestrian crash. Walking against traffic flow, crossing outside marked crosswalks, or unexpected movements by either drivers or pedestrians may increase risk. Proper awareness and adherence to traffic signals are critical for preventing these incidents.
