South Bend, IN (March 4, 2026) – A plumbing worker was critically hurt after being struck by a vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, March 4, in South Bend’s northwest side. The incident happened around 1:15 p.m. near the intersection of Portage Avenue and Leland Avenue.
Reports indicate the victim was working in the area when a vehicle struck him. The driver involved did not remain at the scene and left the area following the collision.
Emergency units responded and provided aid before the injured worker was taken to a nearby hospital. Officials said the victim, an employee of Niezgodski Plumbing, was listed in critical condition following the crash.
Authorities advised drivers to avoid the area while crews worked at the scene and investigators reviewed the incident. Officers are continuing efforts to locate the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.
