Why Rollover Crashes Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Rollover crashes can result in serious injuries because vehicles may flip multiple times or land on their sides or roofs, which can cause occupants to be thrown violently inside the vehicle and increase the risk of head, neck, and chest trauma. In communities like Nashua, New Hampshire, crash data has shown that while rollovers are less frequent than other collision types, they are more likely to lead to severe or fatal injuries, particularly when higher speeds or sudden impacts are involved.
Intersections are common locations for rollover collisions, especially when vehicles strike each other from the side or at an angle, and the force of impact can destabilize a vehicle and cause it to overturn. This risk may increase on roads with heavier traffic or limited space to maneuver.
Because of these risks, safety experts encourage drivers to slow down near intersections and remain alert for crossing traffic. In addition, wearing seat belts is one of the most effective ways to reduce injuries during rollover crashes.
