Lincoln, NE (September 4, 2026) – A two-vehicle collision involving a Chevrolet Traverse and a Mazda occurred near Hunts Drive and Old Cheney Road around 6:45 a.m. on Wednesday, September 2. One of the vehicles rolled during the crash.

The driver of the overturned vehicle was taken to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The initial report did not identify the man or specify which vehicle he had been driving.

The roadway was closed for about two hours while emergency units worked and cleanup was completed. It has since reopened to traffic. Investigators are continuing to determine what led to the wreck.

We hope the injured driver has a steady recovery.

Rollover Collisions Can Create Serious Injury Risks

A rollover can expose occupants to forces from several directions as a vehicle turns onto its side or roof. Seat belts help keep people inside the passenger compartment, where the vehicle structure offers its greatest protection.

The seriousness of harm can depend on speed, the number of rotations, roof strength, and whether occupants remain properly restrained. Loose objects inside the cabin may also become hazardous as the vehicle changes orientation.

Rollovers can also complicate access to occupants because doors or windows may become blocked or difficult to use. Head, neck, chest, and limb trauma can occur depending on how the vehicle moves and where the body makes contact inside the cabin. Even when injuries are not considered life-threatening, medical evaluation may be needed to identify problems that are not immediately obvious.
