Rooks County, KS (January 19, 2026) – A man was killed in a head-on collision involving two pickup trucks on a rural stretch of Z Road, just east of 23 Road near Plainville.
The Kansas Highway Patrol reported that the crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on January 17, roughly six miles southeast of Plainville. According to preliminary findings, a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on Z Road when it collided head-on with an eastbound 1999 Ford F250 Super Duty. The impact occurred in the middle of the road.
Emergency responders arrived quickly to assess the scene, but one of the drivers succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, pending family notification. Details on whether the second driver was injured have not been made available.
The Kansas Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the cause of the collision, including factors such as road conditions and vehicle positioning at the time of impact.
