What Factors Can Affect Visibility for Pedestrians at Night?
Nighttime conditions can make it harder for drivers to see pedestrians, especially on roads without strong lighting. Dark clothing and limited streetlights may reduce visibility even further. Headlights help, but they do not always reveal someone crossing until it is too late.
Road design also affects how clearly drivers can spot people on foot. Intersections with multiple connecting roads or higher speed limits may increase the risk of crashes. In some areas, marked crossings or signals are limited, which can make crossing more difficult.
Weather and road surface conditions can also influence visibility. Wet pavement may reflect light in ways that obscure a person in the roadway. These combined factors can make nighttime travel more challenging for both drivers and pedestrians.
