Why Do Multi-Vehicle Highway Crashes Cause Major Delays?
Crashes involving multiple vehicles on highways often lead to extended traffic backups because several lanes may be blocked at once. When large vehicles such as tractor-trailers are involved, cleanup and towing can take additional time due to their size and weight.
Emergency responders typically work in stages, first attending to any injured individuals before removing damaged vehicles and debris. Investigators may also examine speed, following distance, and lane changes to understand how the crash developed. Highway exits, like Exit 6 on I-91, are common congestion points where merging and slowing traffic can increase the risk of collisions.
