Rosendale, NY (May 6, 2026) – Three people were hurt after a dump truck overturned onto another vehicle along State Route 213 in Ulster County.
The crash occurred on Tuesday, May 5, when a 2005 Peterbilt dump truck was traveling southbound on Binnewater Road and approached a stopped vehicle at a stop sign. The truck swerved to the right, went down a small embankment, struck a fire hydrant, and entered the eastbound lane of State Route 213.
As the driver attempted to return to the proper lane, the truck, which was carrying soil, overturned onto a vehicle with three people inside. Two occupants were taken to Health Alliance Hospital with minor injuries. The driver was removed from the vehicle and airlifted to Westchester Medical Center with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
What Can Cause Dump Trucks to Lose Control on Roads?
Large trucks can become difficult to control, especially when carrying heavy loads. Sudden movements, such as swerving to avoid another vehicle, may shift the weight and make the truck unstable.
Road features like stop signs, curves, and embankments can also increase risk. If a truck leaves the roadway, it may strike objects or reenter traffic at an unsafe angle.
The height and weight of dump trucks make them more likely to tip if balance is lost. When they overturn, nearby vehicles can be severely affected due to the size and force involved.
