Royalton Twp, OH (January 23, 2026) – A serious accident involving two semi-trucks left one driver with life-threatening injuries early on Thursday morning in Fulton County, prompting a multi-agency response and road closures lasting several hours.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) reports that the crash occurred at approximately 5:34 a.m. at the intersection of US Route 20 and State Route 109. A 65-year-old man from West Unity was traveling eastbound in a 2008 Kenworth semi tractor-trailer when a 41-year-old Indianapolis man, driving a 2024 Freightliner north on SR-109, entered the intersection from a stop sign and crossed into the Kenworth’s path.
The resulting collision caused significant damage to both vehicles and led to the spillage of approximately 100 gallons of diesel fuel on the roadway. The driver of the Kenworth suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a Toledo hospital. Emergency responders provided treatment at the scene to the Freightliner driver, who sustained minor injuries.
Crews from multiple agencies, including the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, responded to assist with both medical aid and environmental cleanup. The intersection remained closed for about five hours while officials worked to manage the spill and clear the scene.
Investigators confirmed that drugs and alcohol are not suspected of contributing factors. The 41-year-old driver was reportedly wearing a seat belt, though the seat belt status of the other driver remains unknown.
Our thoughts are with the seriously injured driver, and we hope for his full and swift recovery as the investigation continues.
