Frequently Asked Questions
What usually causes two-vehicle crashes like this one?
Common factors include misjudged turns, following too closely, failing to yield at an intersection or driver inattention. Investigators typically review vehicle positions, road conditions and witness accounts before determining a cause.
How does speed affect the severity of a crash?
Higher speeds reduce the time a driver has to react and increase the force of impact, which generally leads to more serious injuries and more vehicle damage.
Why is distracted driving considered so risky?
Even a few seconds of taking eyes off the road can prevent a driver from braking or steering away from a hazard, which is why distraction remains a common factor in crash investigations.
Do weather or road conditions play a role in crashes like this?
Wet pavement, debris or poor visibility can affect vehicle handling and stopping distance, though investigators confirm such factors only after reviewing the specific conditions at the time of the crash.
