San Diego, CA (January 13, 2026) – A 59-year-old man was injured on January 12 after being struck by a bicyclist while sitting on a park bench near Zion Ave, according to emergency communications. The unexpected collision caused the man to fall backward from the bench, resulting in complaints of neck and upper back pain.
Emergency crews responded quickly and found the man alert, oriented, and breathing normally, though he was unable to get up due to discomfort. Paramedics applied a cervical collar and administered pain relief before transporting him to San Diego Medical Center for further evaluation. Despite the impact, the man reported no loss of consciousness, and the only visible injury was a minor abrasion to his right hand.
According to first responders, the bicyclist reportedly did not see the bench or the seated individual in time to avoid the collision. The patient’s vital signs remained stable throughout care, and no neurological deficits were noted.
The incident is under review to determine whether environmental factors or visibility issues contributed to the crash.
We wish the injured man a full and speedy recovery.
