San Diego, CA (January 24, 2026) – Emergency responders were dispatched Friday evening to a serious motorcycle collision on the southbound lanes of Interstate 15 in San Diego. The crash occurred on January 23 around 5:50 p.m., prompting a major trauma response from UC San Diego Medical Center and on-scene EMS crews.
According to dispatch reports, a 54-year-old man was riding a motorcycle and lane-splitting at highway speeds when a vehicle reportedly cut him off. The rider laid his motorcycle down in the middle lanes of the freeway but was not struck by any other vehicles during the incident.
Paramedics arrived to find the rider alert and oriented, breathing normally, and wearing full protective gear including a helmet. He sustained right shoulder pain, as well as additional injuries to his right knee and foot, along with visible road rash. Despite the trauma, he remained stable at the scene and was transported to UCSD for further evaluation.
Traffic was affected in the southbound lanes as emergency personnel worked to safely assess and transport the injured motorcyclist. Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the driver of the vehicle that initiated the sequence of events.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause and any contributing factors.
