San Diego, CA (January 30, 2026) – Two individuals were injured in a multi-vehicle crash, including a rollover, that occurred Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 15 near Balboa Ave. The collision led to major traffic disruption in the southbound lanes and required a coordinated emergency response.
The crash took place shortly before 1:40 p.m. on January 28, drawing units from the California Highway Patrol and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department. Initial reports confirmed that at least two vehicles were involved, and the force of the impact caused one to overturn, blocking multiple lanes.
Emergency responders worked quickly to assess the scene and provide aid. Paramedics transported two injured individuals to a local hospital. One of the victims suffered major trauma, while the second was being treated for minor injuries. Their current conditions have not been made public.
Due to the severity of the crash and the need to safely remove the damaged vehicles, all southbound lanes of I-15 were temporarily closed. Authorities reopened the roadway around 2:30 p.m. after completing preliminary investigations and clearing the scene.
CHP is continuing its investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Factors such as driver behavior, vehicle conditions, or traffic patterns at the time may be under review.
